Nature’s Way Farm
Location: Grimshaw, Northern Alberta (West of Peace River)
Description of Operation:
On our Holistic Managed, ecological and grass based farm, we raise grass-fed cattle and sheep, and we grow alfalfa seed, alfalfa leafcutter, hay and beekeep. We have a couple of milk cows, a dozen laying hens, and a vegetable garden for our own food supply. At Natures Way Farm we believe in building a healthy eco-system and working with nature to provide an environmentally, economically and socially acceptable form of food production. One of our goals is to share our knowledge with others and help the next generation of farmers.

Areas of potential apprentice specialization:
The successful applicant will learn about grass based farming, planned grazing of cattle and sheep, pasture calving and lambing, animal nutrition, soils, and mineral balancing. Also you will learn about compost tea brewing and application, Holistic Management, low stress livestock handling, fencing, carpentry, pollination of alfalfa using leafcutter bees, traditional nutrition following the teaching of the Weston A. Price Foundation and Slow Food International.

Minimum expectations:
Applicants should be physically fit, self motivated and have a desire to learn about organic farming.
Lodging:
Housing is included, a separate house with all appliances is available which may be shared with other interns. Meals are all homecooked and we use as much of our farm produce and local produce as possible. Meals will be served at the main house.
